Are you interested in making a big purchase? Are you thinking about buying your first home or a new car? Whether you know what yours is or not, your credit score comes into play here.  With only one-third of Americans looking at their credit report annually, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you had no idea what your report says about you.   With your credit score weighing in on whether you’ll obtain a loan, how much, and at what interest rate, it’s smart to monitor your credit with a monitoring service like GoFreeCredit.

What Is GoFreeCredit?

GoFreeCredit has been around since 2004, with headquarters in El Segundo, CA, and is a credit monitoring service. It’s a website where you can check your credit, make sure the information on your credit report is accurate, and catch fraud and identity theft early.

It is considered a ‘white-labeled’ credit monitoring service. That means they are a reseller of another company’s credit monitoring service. TransUnion Credit Monitoring is the company that provides the service.

Is GoFreeCredit Safe?

Through GoFreeCredit, all three credit reports from Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax are continuously monitored. As a subscriber, you receive an instant alert for problems that come up on either of the three reports.  It also provides up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

What Does it Cost?

For $1, you will receive a 7-day trial and a credit report and score from TransUnion. If you chose to continue after the 7-day trial, the cost is $19.95 per month.   With your monthly membership fee, you have access to all of TransUnion Credit’s monitoring features which include the following:

  • Daily credit bureau monitoring
  • Important credit history information
  • Reports

If you chose to cancel after the trial period, go to the cancellation page. You’ll put in your email address and start the cancellation process.

What is the Downside?

GoFreeCredit users have pointed out some of the cons of using the service, which include the following:

  • Customer service is by email only, no phone or online customer support.
  • It does not allow you to check your credit report at any time.
  • There’s no evidence that it is safe and secure.
  • It will not help you dispute errors on your credit report.
